Opening Day

October 1, opening day, has come and gone. We were like a couple of kids on Christmas Eve. Don't think either one of us slept much. Did last-minute prep work that Sunday afternoon; spreading out feed, spraying/washing clothes scent elliminator, checking tree stands, and building broadheads.

We were up at 5:30am and headed to the woods around 6:30 for a morning sit. Mary went to our ground blind in the "swamp" and Megan hiked into her tree stand. Both saw does (total of 5 on the morning), and each had a possible target. Mary's doe was spooked, or got a smell of her, and Megan didn't have a clear shot.

 Big cold front headed this direction next weekend. Scheduled to come through Friday with Saturday/Sunday/Monday morning lows in the mid 30s to low 40s.

Hope those deer are movin'!

 

 

 

Megan's Tree Stand

Megan is hunting from a tree stand off the area we call the "trace". Always a hot spot for deer tracks, we thought this area would be great spot for a stand and bowhunting. Cleared trees and branches for shooting lanes, and the area is now ready to go.

The attractants have been Swamp Donkey and Sugar Beet Crush. Not much luck with the Sugar Beet, but Swamp Donkey has been a big hit. Also tossed out Throw-n-Grow seed--major success!

Mary's Huntin' Spot--"The Field"

After moving and reviewing trail cam after cam, Mary had much frustration with finding a good hunting spot--there was nothing on the cams! Luckily, she came across an open field that had a patch of dirt tore up...and covered in deer tracks. Both relief and excitement!

Put up a cam and threw out Swamp Donkey, and was happily surprised to find the following pics:

 

We've since put up a ground blind, and lookin' forward to the season!
